Wisdom

'You cannot stay on the mountain forever. You have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.'

- Rene Daumel, Mont Analogue

About me

I would like to begin by telling you a little about myself and a few experiences I have had which encourage me to pursue a career of teaching English as a second language.

One of the core objectives I have had in life is to learn about our world’s limitless amount of cultural customs, ethnic traditions, and patterns of living. I have had many experiences with people from diverse cultural, ethnic, and sociocultural backgrounds that have helped me to become conscious of cultural differences. My experiences stem from years of traveling through Southeast Asia, Mexico, and Costa Rica, to being an English tutor and Supplemental Instructor at San Diego City College as well as teaching English as a second language at Red Rocks Community College and Spring Institute. It is through all of these experiences and use of intercultural communication that I have crossed cultural boundaries and broadened my perception and understanding of our world’s cultural diversity.

I continue to explore, discover and become aware of cultural differences that are new to me. I know that being an ESL teacher is an extremely rewarding and enriching profession since I, along with the students, acquire knowledge regarding the ubiquitous cultural differences that surround us all and our individual traits and similar characteristics that contribute to our beloved earth’s ever-changing and interwoven cultural integration.

‘We ought to think that we are one of the leaves of a tree, and the tree is all humanity. We cannot live without the others, without the tree.’

-Pablo Casals (1877-1973)
